About CT Scans
Computed Tomography (CT) scans involve scanning the body with rotating X-Ray beams generated from inside a donut-shaped machine. EMI currently uses a new multi-slice CT scanner which is able to acquire information about the body with excellent image resolution.

The CT Scans we perform include (but are not limited to): Brain, Pituitary Fossa, Orbits, Petrous Temporal Bones, Facial Bones, Dentascan, Sinuses, Spine, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis, Angiography, Musculoskeletal scans, Limb Length Assessment, Pelvimetry, CT Guided Interventional Procedures (Spine and Joint Injections).
How long does it take?
The duration of the scan depends on the region of the body and the type of scan requested. Usually this is around 10 to 20 minutes.
CT scans can be performed on Monday-Friday.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, you will need to make an appointment for a CT scan as some examinations require preparation beforehand. This will also allow us to minimise your waiting time and provide a more effective and efficient service.
Important information:
Please advise us if you:
- Have any allergies
- Have diabetes
- Are taking any medication
- Are pregnant or suspect that you are pregnant
- Have any other medical information that may be relevant to your scan
Certain scans may require an intravenous injection of contrast and you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire prior to commencement of scanning.
You may be required to change into a gown and to remove any eyewear, hair accessories, hearing aids, jewellery or other personal items before undergoing the scan.
